Who’s on First?
Current Listening
I think I’ll eventually get around to adding a “Current Listening” tab in the sidebar, but for now, occasional posts will work:
1. Lots of Frank Sinatra – come to Vertex on Friday to find out why.
2. Jimmy Chamberlin – Life Begins Again – The drummer from Smashing Pumpkins has released a solo CD. I really, really like the instrumental songs on the album. Chamberlin made his living as a jazz drummer before joining the Pumpkins, and there are bits of jazz tossed in throughout the album – a definite plus. The songs with vocals – eh…not so much (even a guest appearance by Billy Corgan doesn’t help). Chamberlin has some very serious chops, and I believe he is a very underrated drummer. However, his playing on this album is more laid back than I thought it would be. There are moments of him stepping to the front and showing off his chops, but for the most part, it’s a fairly mellow album. That’s not a bad thing by any means.
3. Duke Ellington – The Intimacy of the Blues – I used to have this album on tape. As I type this, I’m downloading it from iTunes. I’ve missed listening to this album, and I’m very much looking forward to listening to it again. In fact, come on out to Vertex on Friday, and you’ll hear it at the coffeehouse afterward.
BrianAndrewDodson.com Update
I have a thousand other things on my “To Do” list, but I couldn’t take it anymore. I broke down and updated my personal site tonight. Lots of updates – all of which are documented on the index page. Go check it out – and visit my new message board!
