JMB Recording: Day 2
Day 2 is underway here at Cedarmore. God protected us from the ghosts of Cedarmore our first night (more on this possibly later). Bert is busy making fried doughnuts for breakfast.
Yesterday didn’t see much recording get done. A lot of Texas Hold ‘Em was played (no money changed hands - Andrew won big). The band sat down for a short meeting to discuss possible song order for the album, transitions, etc. We attempted to record “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” late last night. No one was terribly satisfied with how it turned out, so we’re going to tackle it again this morning.
More to come….
JMB Recording: Day 1
Howdy folks. We’re settling into our “studio” here at Cedarmore (Boone Lodge). No recording as of yet, other than checking levels and all that good stuff. We’ll probably get the ball rolling a little later tonight. Check back soon!
Dave Chakrabarti’s Blog: CivicSpace
This guy seems to have a good handle on all this CMS (content management system) stuff. Reading this article assured me that using CivicSpace for The Point’s new website is the way to go.
I’d considered setting up Wordpress initially, but now I’m going full-steam-ahead with CivicSpace. I’ll look into it this evening. The new domain name has been processed and all-systems-are-go at this point for launching the new website very soon.
Revised Links & Blogroll
We Have An Identity
Shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, the name was revealed for the new church - The Point Community Church.
Just after this announcement, I secured www.thepointcommunity.net, which will be the home of The Point on the web. As soon as this is processed, I will setup Wordpress on the site, and we’ll begin to use it as our primary source of communication. For the time being, our temporary blog has moved to:
http://thepointchurch.blogspot.com/
I will also start developing logo ideas in the very near future.
Our first Bible study will be held Wednesday evening. Our first service will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. An announcement regarding location will be made later today. See the blog for more details.
This is not a blog post about my favorite local VFW establishment. This is the current post count of my blog. It may’ve been a feature in previous versions of Wordpress, but I never noticed.
I’m actually disappointed that I only have 265 posts. This is much less than one post per day. Now that I’m back to blogging regularly (after the blog slump I suffered in late 2005), maybe I can catch up. If the last few days are any indication, I’m sure I will (have you people noticed how much I’ve blogged the last three days? It just shows how unproductive I’ve been).
Wordpress 2.0
I just now posted for the first time using the Dashboard inside Wordpress 2.0. Lately, I’ve been using desktop blogging tools like MarsEdit & ecto. I’ve only been on the Dashboard after I upgraded to 2.0 a few days ago.
I have to say that I’m impressed with the new features of Wordpress 2.0. Not to mention, you can now head over to Wordpress.com and create a free blog account (much like our good friends at Blogger - however, I’m partial to Wordpress).
Keep Track of Updates
You can keep track of news & updates regarding the new church at the new blog.

Just a friendly reminder…if you haven’t already doneso, pick up a copy of the 2006 Hooters calendar.

Drupal & CivicSpace
Tech-savvy extraordinaire and all-around-good-guy Tim Chase has directed me to the world of open source content management developers Drupal and CivicSpace (related companies, but slightly different).
Seemingly, my vision for a community-based church website will end up being driven by one of these pieces of software. At this point, I’m leaning more toward CivicSpace. I’ll be spending most of my free time this week (which won’t be much!) investigating and brushing up on how to use & install both. I’ll probably do test installations on one of my websites (though it will be ‘hidden’ from public view) to test myself.
Once we select a name for the church, we’ll be able to proceed with purchasing a domain name and get the ball rolling. At the pace things have been moving to this point, I’d say this will be sooner than later. Please continue to pray for this whole process, as well as the continuation of God’s work at Crestwood! More to come…
