Testing ecto

without comments

Round #2 of trying out desktop blogging. Tonight’s test-drive software is a neat little program called ecto. It seems to have a few more options than MarsEdit. Let’s see if this works….

(…it works too.)

‘Intelligent design’ gets little class time

without comments

The Herald-Leader has an interesting article on the Intelligent Design debate in classrooms. For the most part, it’s not much of a debate in Kentucky, but the article sheds some light on what’s going on in our classrooms.

(oh yeah, an employee of where my mom works is also quoted)

Bilbo’s house

with one comment

For all of you Lord of the Rings fans out there, I found something pretty cool. Someone has designed a dollhouse version of Bilbo Baggins’s hobbit hole abode. Go check it out…

A Vision: A Website

without comments

Tomorrow morning, Rick will announce his resignation from Crestwood Baptist Church. In the afternoon, a meeting will be held to discuss the vision of a new church, which Rick will pastor.

I have not been officially asked, but I would desperately love to create and maintain the new church’s website. However, I’m using the terms “create” and “maintain” loosely in this case. Here’s my idea:

The new website would be entirely blog-based, using Wordpress 2.0 as its engine. Since Wordpress allows the creation of other sub-pages within the blog, it would be easy to create a “Service Times” page, “Staff” page, or a “Calendar” page and so on. I wouldn’t necessarily have to be THE person that maintains the site. Authoring credentials could be given to individuals willing to assist in the upkeep of the site. They would be able to login and update pages as needed.

Using iPowerweb as a web host, we can also install a photo gallery (created, cleverly-enough by Gallery). This would enable allowed users to upload church pictures and the like from their computer, as opposed to emailing them to me, or giving me a CD, and having to wait until I have time to upload the pictures.

I’m thinking it would be a highly-interactive website, giving people a sense of ownership. It would be unique among current Frankfort church websites, as well. I hope I can lead this aspect of the new church.

I have a feeling that I WON’T be purchasing a pair of these…

My only question is, how do you go about washing these?

Testing MarsEdit

with 2 comments

I’m trying a new piece of software – MarsEdit. This allows me to blog from my desktop. It also works with NetNewsWire, my new RSS news reader software. We’ll see if this works…

RSS for total newbies.

without comments

I’d like to introduce everyone (and myself) to RSS. In a nutshell, the concept is this:

Instead of going to visit all of your favorite websites every day or every week (like this blog *wink*), you can use a news reader service or program to make life easier. I just downloaded NetNewsWire, and after fifteen minutes, I’m sold.

Waldo, creator of Nancies.org, gives us a nice run-down on all-things RSS:

Looks like the digital music revolution has finally been realized in the music business. The industry is calling it the “worst year ever” for album sales. Services like iTunes are dominating CD sales.

Email Fixed

without comments

At long last, I’ve finally fixed my email. For the longest time, I’ve simply been using my WebMail through my web host. This was due to something going wrong with my outgoing mail server while trying to use desktop email programs like Outlook, MacMail and Mozilla’s Thunderbird.

I finally discovered that in order for my outgoing mail to work, I needed to use my ISP’s (Frankfort Plant Board) outgoing mail server, and NOT my website’s. So, I gave FPB a call just now, and surprisingly, within five minutes, I’m back up-and-running. I’m quite pleased with FPB’s customer service at this point in time.

New Drum Stuff

with one comment

I finally broke down and bought two pieces of drum equipment that I’ve wanted for a long while:

Broom Sticks
Yep – these are actual “broom sticks.” I won’t get them in time for the JMB recording sessions, but I can’t wait to hear what these sound like.

side snare
Mine is the black-on-black, and it is one sexy drum. In a nutshell, it’s a miniature snare drum. It’s an effect drum, but I have a feeling it will be hard to not overuse it once I add it to my drumset. It’ll be a nice addition to my setup.
