Recording in the Works

without comments

Just wanted to drop in (since it is my blog and all) and say hello.  I’ve been holed up in the “studio”…or…Brad’s basement for the last few hours working on a new project.  My new solo album?  Nope.  (for the record, that is STILL in the beginning stages, but it’s at least started, finally)  New Josh Martin Band recordings?  Nope.  I’ve started work on Travis Huber’s solo album.  Travis is the former lead singer of Point of Real (check previous post for info on this band).  Travis decided to do his own thing, and he enlisted me as his recording engineer/drummer for the project.  To this point, we’ve tracked one song completely over the course of about ten hours.  Yes… we spent ten hours on one song.

I’m getting some great sounds.  I wasn’t pleased with my drums sounds initially (imagine that), but after reworking my mic setup, I’m very pleased with the drum sounds.  The acoustic guitars sound great, the electrics sound heavy, the bass has a nice tight sound, and the vocals are sitting nicely on top of the mix.

I’ll keep everyone posted on the progress.  I’ll be working with Travis one or two days per week until the completion of the project.  It’ll probably take a good while, but I think it’ll be worth it in the end.  Stay tuned!

I’m 27 now.

As some of my faithful readers know, yesterday was my birthday.  My first birthday treat was a fancy doughnut-on-a-plate decorated with “Happy Birthday.”  The praise band sang to me during our rehearsal before church.

After church, I headed to Nineveh, Indiana with the Josh Martin Band to play at Nineveh Christian Church.  Even though I’d told the band when we confirmed this date that it would be my birthday, they’re all guys, so none of them remembered.  The concert went well, and it was a great crowd - nearly a packed house.  I didn’t tell the guys until after the concert that it was  my birthday.  They all sang to me during the fellowship meal after the concert.  Strangely, they sounded horrible!  Good thing it’s better on stage!

To top off my birthday, Cari has blogged about the occasion.  Thanks Cari!

All-in-all, a good day.

Congratulations Colts!

without comments

Congratulations to the Indianapolis Colts (and Shane). While I’m a die-hard Bengals fan, if I had to choose another NFL team to root for, it’d be the Colts. They’re a class-act team. Mostly a reflection of their heckuva-human-being coach, Tony Dungy. Way to go!

(I only wish I’d blogged a prediction earlier today… I’ve been thinking all week that Rex Grossman would have another choke performance, and Peyton Manning’s veteran ability would shine. Turns out, I was right! But, it’s easy to say all this after the fact. I promise I thought it earlier this week!)
