Movin’ On Up
Not to the east side, though. Downtown. As of July 1, my new address will be 315 St. Clair #302.
I’ve consulted with a lot of people and pretty much all of them agree it’s a great apartment. My parents also approve – I knew mom would like it (she always wants the best for me, and this is a nicer apartment than what I’ve got now), but my dad is always a tough sell. I know if I ever gain his approval, it’s a good deal.
I also learned it’s the same exact apartment a former co-worker of mine lived in (the person who put the idea of living on St. Clair in my head). “Which apartment did you live in?” “302.” “Oh, that’s the one I might take.” “Isn’t it awesome?!?” It was a funny conversation. I’m inviting her to visit once I get settled in so she can see her old apartment.
The landlord is being more-than-generous with me, which makes me feel good. I also have Justin to thank for putting in a good word for me. I’ll be able to start moving in the last week of June. If anyone wants to help me move, come on!!!
Dilem-na
Pickle. Predicament. Between a rock and hard place.
These words describe my current living situation and a new opportunity. My friend Justin can relate.
My current apartment is the best deal in Frankfort. I’m convinced. For me, it’s adequate, very affordable and convenient to several areas I frequent – work, church, gym, grocery store. My landlords are great. Sounds like a pretty good situation, huh?
I’ve told myself for the past couple of years that I’d live in an apartment on the St. Clair Mall someday. After seeing Justin’s new apartment on Friday night, it hastened my desire to live there. After a call to the landlord this weekend (who seemed very friendly), I’ve learned three units will be available in the next few weeks.
Pros: It’s my dream apartment (as far as Frankfort is concerned). Coffee shop and bookstore around the corner. As “big city” style as apartments get in Frankfort. Utility room with washer/dryer hookups. It has a bedroom (as opposed to my current studio apartment). Recessed lighting and black & white tile floor in the kitchen – very modern. Living room is spacious and would be great for hosting company.
Cons: I’ll pay approximately $125 more per month (a big, big con). Slightly longer drive to work and church.
In betweens: Gym membership – initally, I’ll want to cancel my gym membership. Going into summer, I’ll be able to take jogs to stay in shape for the time being. Once I see if I can afford the extra money for a membership, the YMCA is just around the corner (almost as close as my current gym is to my current apartment). Cable TV – if I stay in my current apartment, I plan on getting cable. If I move, for the time being, I’ll stick with just local TV.
Any and all input is appreciated.
PSA: Vertex
The next Vertex will be this coming Friday – June 3rd. Yes, this is during Expo. However, Expo lasts all weekend, so I’m sure you can spare a couple of hours on Friday for Vertex. The Josh Martin Band (sans keyboard) will lead worship. “Some Guy” (sorry, I forget his name) will be speaking. We’ve heard he’s great. You should come. Bring friends. 8 p.m.. Crestwood Baptist Church.
Genesis 7:11
“…and the rain fell in mighty torrents from the sky.”
Yeah, Noah’s ark is gonna float by anytime now.
Holy Cow
I just heard (and felt) the loudest crack of thunder ever in my life. My apartment rattled as if it were an earthquake, and you could here the thunder reverberate all down East Main Street. Minutes later, I heard sirens and emergency vehicles driving by. Judging by the lightning flash that preceeded the thunder, I would guess the strike landed two or three miles away. In this case, it sounded like a bomb was dropped a block away from my apartment. Wow.
Downtown Photo Gallery
As promised, follow the link below to view some of my nighttime photos of downtown Frankfort:
I Use My Cam-er-a At Night
Ok, so the title is a really bad reference to the 80’s song “I Wear My Sunglasses At Night.” Isn’t that Corey Hart or something like that?
(as I’m typing this, the UK-South Carolina game has just ended. Ugh.)
ANYWAY…
I’ve finally learned how to use my camera at night. Needless to say, my camera’s value or worth just increased. I went on a tour of downtown Frankfort tonight, taking pictures of some of the “landmarks.” I’m going to set up an actual photo gallery on my website, but for now, I’ll show one of my favorites from tonight:
