Hey Dave,

All of this sounds great. The SB card/small mixer would definitely be the most affordable route. Behringer makes a great small mixer with one XLR input that could serve as your mic preamp. You can order this from Musician's Friend for around $30-40, I believe. Wal-Mart, Office Depot and places like that would have soundcards for fairly cheap. You can pick up an SM57 or SM58 here in town at Brad's Music Center.

You're definitely on the right track! Sounds like it will be very time consuming, but well worth it.

Take care,
Andrew

So I was thinking..... about recording myself reading the bible. so I thought I would ask your opinion as to how to do this on the cheap but good quality
ie.
1. upgrade sb card
2. get little mixer
3. shure sm58
4. download audacity
5. start talking
6. run through lame
7. pop into my mp3 cd player in the truck

in your recording experience am I on the right track?

Thanks

Dave

ps. I don't think I have seen your firewire cable
