The SB card/small mixer would definitely be the most affordable route. Behringer makes a great small mixer with one XLR input that could serve as your mic preamp. You can order this from Musician's Friend for around $30-40, I believe. Wal-Mart, Office Depot and places like that would have soundcards for fairly cheap.
