The Josh Martin Band has returned to the
studio! The page is the official live blog from the recording sessions
to keep you up-to-date on the progress of the new album.
09.26.2008 | Day 1, Part 1
Recording is underway! We woke up early this morning to get a good
start on the day. After an excellent breakfast at Cracker Barrel, we
returned to the lodge to start recording. Only Josh, Kelly and Andrew
were on hand to get started, but we made good progress throughout the
day. Derek arrived late this afternoon and Doug is on the way. So
far, we’ve laid rhythm tracks for five songs, which is much further
along than we thought we’d be at this point. We’re taking a break for
dinner at the moment, and will be recording more throughout the
evening. Stay tuned for more updates!
09.27.2008 | Day 2, Part 1
To say we were productive last night was an understatement. We’re
rolling! Now… you have to realize we are one of the most indecisive,
inefficient collection of individuals on the planet. In a matter of 24
hours, we’ve recorded tracks for seven songs! It’s crazy. We’ve spent
most of this morning doing overdubs, laying down extra tracks (solos,
pads, etc.) and talking about computer programming. After our lunch
break, we’ll head back into the lodge to keep plugging away. We’ve
taken lots of pictures and videos, but the lodge we’re recording in
does not have an internet connection. So, we’ll upload videos,
pictures & sound clips over the next few days. Here’s the
tracklist as of right now:
- Christ Is Our Life
- Exposed
- Good Enough
- Clumsy Believer
- Thanks Be To Jesus
- Come Thou Fount
- Come Ye Sinners
A surprise of the sessions so far has been “Come Ye Sinners.” We
channeled our inner Third Day for this song with plenty of electric
guitars and distortion. Overall, the album is shaping up much like Not So Easily Pleased, with a very diverse sound. More to come!
09.28.2008 | Recording Session #1 Wrap-Up
We wrapped up the first recording sessions for the new album
yesterday evening. It was an extremely productive weekend, and I think
we accomplished much more than we anticipated. Overall, basic tracks
for eight songs were laid down, with parts of a ninth. Now, we move on
to laying down vocals, percussion, and other backing tracks to fill out
the tracks we recording this weekend. We’ll be doing this off-and-on
over the next several weeks. Check back soon for pictures &
videos… they are coming!
