On Prayer

without comments

It seems as though I’m writing something about prayer.  A good friend and I started an idea this past week of discussing a spiritual topic through email each week.  I picked the topic of prayer as our first discussion.  I think I’ve gone a bit overboard for an email discussion, so I’m taking it a new direction.  I don’t know yet what I will end up with, but I’ve written six pages about prayer so far.

The working title is “What Does the Bible Really Say About Prayer.”  My goal is to establish a fundamental understanding of prayer, keeping the Bible as the source.  As of now, I’ve yet to rely on sources other than the Bible in an effort to keep the focus on what the Bible says about prayer, and not what others think the Bible says about prayer.

An early theme that has started to develop revolves around assurance.  When we pray, we need to be confident the outcome is God’s will.  We may not get all of our prayers answered to our liking, but we should have the assurance of God’s plan at work in our lives.

I plan to provide updates on the project.  I’m interested to see the direction this goes.  I could be done with it very soon, and I could likely still be working on it a year from now.  We’ll see what happens…
