Recording in the Works
Just wanted to drop in (since it is my blog and all) and say hello. I’ve been holed up in the “studio”…or…Brad’s basement for the last few hours working on a new project. My new solo album? Nope. (for the record, that is STILL in the beginning stages, but it’s at least started, finally) New Josh Martin Band recordings? Nope. I’ve started work on Travis Huber’s solo album. Travis is the former lead singer of Point of Real (check previous post for info on this band). Travis decided to do his own thing, and he enlisted me as his recording engineer/drummer for the project. To this point, we’ve tracked one song completely over the course of about ten hours. Yes… we spent ten hours on one song.
I’m getting some great sounds. I wasn’t pleased with my drums sounds initially (imagine that), but after reworking my mic setup, I’m very pleased with the drum sounds. The acoustic guitars sound great, the electrics sound heavy, the bass has a nice tight sound, and the vocals are sitting nicely on top of the mix.
I’ll keep everyone posted on the progress. I’ll be working with Travis one or two days per week until the completion of the project. It’ll probably take a good while, but I think it’ll be worth it in the end. Stay tuned!
