The Palin VP Issue – A Follow Up

with 5 comments

The disclaimer in my last post said that I had yet to do any research on the subject of a female being a political leader. These types of questions fuel my study of the bible, so I started digging in.

In Judges 4, we see Deborah as the only female judge of Israel. In Isaiah 3:12, Judah is pretty jacked up, and God says women will rule over them. Most read into this to say it was because all the men were jacked up, so God punished Judah by appointing women to lead them. While that’s likely the case, based on the text, it also shows us that God did ordain for women to be political leaders. And, who’s to say that America isn’t pretty jacked up in its own right, so we might need a woman to set us straight (please don’t read too much into this statement).

Elsewhere throughout the Bible, we see plenty of queens being mentioned. Not to mention, women like Ruth and Esther who were influential in one way or another.

Am I too far off base here? I’m curious to know what other people think. I just disagree with Pastor Baucham on this issue.

  1. I was going to mention Deborah to you, but decided to read this post first. I think she is a perfect example.

  2. I think Deborah is a perfect example too. After all, she is my namesake.

  3. Yeah, Titus 2 is more about what women should be rather than what they shouldn’t be. If this position would keep her from her responsibilities as a mother and wife then she shouldn’t do it. But the same would be true for a man if it kept him from his responsibilities as a husband and father. Quite frankly, I wasn’t going to vote this year. My conscience wouldn’t let me. But she is without question the best of what’s left. I would feel better about the our government knowing that she would be second in command. There’s my two cents.

  4. “When God created people, he made them in the likeness of God. He created them male and female, and he blessed them and called them ‘human’” ~ Gen 5:1b-2 NLT1

Nowhere does it say, “and he said that a woman is any less in stature of a man”. The foursqure denomination was founded by a woman, as well as all the biblical Christian women already mentioned.

The heart is what matters. The rest is religion.

  5. I forgot to add, thank you for your post on this, and how the NLTse font was chosen. I found your site by looking up NLTse in ask.com.
