This may solve the issue.
As a lot of you know, the biggest theological question that weighs on my mind (at this moment in time) is that of free will vs. election. This is a question that I’d rested on for a while, but has been awakened recently, due to Rick’s bible study of Ephesians.
Knowing this is a seemingly man-made debate causes me to “not care” at times about which is right and which is wrong. In the end, it doesn’t matter. I’m saved and going to heaven. God just wants me to glorify Him and share the gospel with the lost. Plain and simple.
Other times, I get hung up on the issue and wrestle with it in my mind for days. But, I came across a study note in my Quest bible tonight that may put my mind to ease completely:
Though the connection between God’s sovereignty and human freedom is mysterious from our perspective, we must remember that God is, by definition, completely good in his actions. Our responsibility is to trust him in his work and live according to his will. We are never called to solve the difficulties that only God understands.
(emphasis mine)
Ahh… relief.

Hey…awesome quote! I agree by the way. This debate was put to rest for me when I was about your age. I took class at NKU called “The Bible as Literature” which I thought was intriguing and would offer some excellent debate. Little did I know that God was going to use that course to put my mind at rest. My professor stood in front of the class early in the semester and said, “Through this course I want you to understand that God is incomprehensible. We do not need to ask why. It is our sinful nature that keeps us from fully understanding God. We are to believe as a child…it’s as simple as that.” It was at then that I realized I was too fixed on me and the questions I had about God rather than just believing with my whole heart…and mind. I’m glad you’ve come to rest in God…it is sweet!

If all things in scripture were as plain as the noses on our faces, what need would there be to read and study His word? We grow in Him by seeking Him out and by pouring ourselfs into His word. It is then that we discover the meaning of what He is trying to reveal to us. We gain the “Wisdom” and “Knowledge” He speaks about in Psalms and Proverbs. Not everything is plain and simple but oh how sweet it is when the light bulb comes on and His word is revealed to us as He planned.
